Salary: USD 163,000 - 204,000 / annual
Tailscale is seeking a Software Engineer to join its networking team and help build the company's global Funnel and DERP relay infrastructure. You will combine network engineering expertise with software development and SRE/DevOps proficiency to design, construct, and oversee Tailscale's edge networking systems.
Key responsibilities include designing and implementing networking features and connectivity solutions, with a focus on Funnel and DERP relay infrastructure and their associated protocols. You'll investigate and resolve complex, escalated network issues across diverse technical environments, maintain accountability for live services through observability and incident management, and evaluate performance, reliability, and scaling of networking resources. Security will be integrated throughout the development lifecycle.
You'll partner with internal engineering and product teams to advance hosted services and contribute to the open-source client code and Tailscale product dataplane. The role requires strong networking fundamentals (VPNs, NAT traversal, routing, IP addressing), experience with distributed systems and global-scale services, and SRE/DevOps methodologies. Go programming language experience is highly desired. You should be comfortable working asynchronously in a fully remote, early-stage startup environment, with strong communication skills and the ability to think on your feet while collaborating with highly technical teams.
