Salary: CAD 218,420 - 273,360 / annual
Tailscale is seeking a Software Engineer to join its networking team and help build the company's global Funnel and DERP relay infrastructure. You will combine network engineering expertise with software development and SRE/DevOps skills to design, build, and maintain Tailscale's edge networking systems that enable secure interconnection of people and devices worldwide.
Key responsibilities include designing and implementing networking features and connectivity solutions, with a focus on Funnel and DERP relay infrastructure and their associated protocols. You'll investigate and resolve complex, escalated network issues across diverse technical environments, maintain accountability for live services through observability and incident management, and evaluate performance, reliability, and scaling of networking resources. A security-first approach is applied throughout the development lifecycle.
You'll contribute to both the open-source client codebase and Tailscale's product dataplane, working closely with internal engineering and product teams to ensure updates deliver broad customer value. The role requires strong networking fundamentals including VPNs, NAT traversal, routing, and IP addressing, plus experience with distributed systems and global-scale service operations. Go programming language expertise is highly desired, as most systems are built in Go.
