Salary: USD 280,000 - 850,000 / annual
Anthropic is seeking a systems-level engineer specializing in network infrastructure and optimization to build and maintain software that interfaces between accelerators and high-speed networks. This role requires deep technical expertise in network protocols, kernel-space and user-space networking, hardware interfacing, and the ability to debug and optimize distributed software at the network level.
Key responsibilities include writing and maintaining software that handles accelerator-to-network communication, designing and implementing network protocols, optimizing collective algorithms and congestion control for large-scale synchronous workloads, and diagnosing complex multi-layered networking issues in distributed systems.
Ideal candidates possess expert-level proficiency with network protocols and networking concepts, including deep knowledge of TCP/IP stack internals, XDP, eBPF, io_uring, and epoll. User-space networking experience with DPDK, RDMA, and kernel bypass techniques is essential. Strong systems programming skills in languages like C/C++ or Rust, with expertise in memory management, lock-free data structures, and NUMA-aware programming, are required.
Strong candidates may have 5+ years of systems or network programming experience, background in HPC, telecommunications, host networking software, OS/kernel engineering, or embedded systems. Additional valuable experience includes understanding of ML accelerators and accelerator drivers, PCIe and driver development, SmartNIC programming, and networking algorithms including compression and graph algorithms.
Representative projects include building systems for accelerator-initiated tensor movement over networks, benchmarking software for new networking environments, implementing new collective algorithms to improve latency, optimizing congestion control for large-scale workloads, and debugging kernel-level network latency issues.
Minimum requirement: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience in a relevant field. The company offers visa sponsorship and maintains a hybrid policy requiring staff to be in office at least 25% of the time, though some roles may require more.
