The Exploration Company is hiring a Software Engineer to develop mission-critical software for their integrated testing and mission operations platform. You will build and maintain the Mission Control Software that powers flight controllers and engineering teams, working across the full software development lifecycle from design through deployment. Key responsibilities include developing robust backend and frontend systems for testing and mission operations, building scalable distributed systems to support expanding mission activities, collaborating with testing and operations teams to understand operational requirements, writing performant and well-documented code with strong automated testing practices, and mentoring junior engineers to strengthen the engineering culture. The ideal candidate brings backend development experience with Python and/or Ruby on Rails, frontend expertise with modern JavaScript frameworks (React, Vue.js), and familiarity with real-time data processing systems. You should have hands-on experience with message brokers or event streaming (Redis Streams, Kafka), object storage solutions (MinIO, AWS S3), version control (Git), and automated testing frameworks. Strong fundamentals in object-oriented programming, software design patterns, and distributed systems architecture are essential. Experience in agile environments, analytical problem-solving, and attention to detail balancing quality with delivery speed are valued. Bonus qualifications include relational or time-series database experience, cloud platform proficiency (AWS, Azure), containerization and CI/CD pipeline knowledge, and prior experience in the space industry or other safety-critical domains. The role offers the opportunity to work on democratizing space transportation in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment with an agile, collaborative, and transparent culture. Relocation assistance and visa sponsorship are provided.
