Alpaca is a US-headquartered global leader in agent-first brokerage infrastructure, serving hundreds of financial institutions across 40+ countries with institutional-grade APIs. The company provides trading infrastructure for stocks, ETFs, options, crypto, fixed income, and 24/5 trading, supporting over 10 million brokerage accounts. The Market Data team is responsible for the architecture and services that power Alpaca's data products across stocks, options, crypto, and foreign exchange markets. You will help build and scale the systems and services that form the foundation of Alpaca's platform, empowering millions of users trading billions of dollars in assets. As a Senior Software Engineer on this team, you will design highly scalable, mission-critical market data provider services. Your responsibilities include architecting and improving the overall system architecture connected to data products, overseeing the public API structure and documentation for both streaming and historical endpoints, and building a cohesive developer-first API. You will plan, ideate, experiment, and deploy new services and libraries that address Alpaca's greatest technical challenges as the company scales rapidly. You will maintain high software quality and test coverage, participate in code reviews, and troubleshoot incidents and reported bugs. The role requires deep understanding of POSIX-like operating systems, modern infrastructure, and orchestration practices. Tech stack includes GoLang (primary), Python, REST, gRPC, Websockets, SSE, Docker, Kubernetes, Google Cloud Services (GKE, BigTable), and monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK. Must-haves: BSc/MSc in Computer Science or equivalent; minimum 3 years backend software development; hands-on Docker or Kubernetes experience; DevOps mindset; knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies. Nice-to-haves: experience with large datasets, Kubernetes certifications (CKA/CKAD), SQL, IP networking, financial markets knowledge, AWS/GCP/Azure, shell scripting, Linux, microservice architectures, and clean code principles.
