As a Senior Software Engineer on the Market Data team, you will help build and scale mission-critical systems that form the foundation of Alpaca's trading infrastructure. The market data team is responsible for the overall architecture of data products spanning stocks, options, crypto, and foreign exchange markets. You will oversee the public API structure and documentation for both streaming and historical endpoints, building a cohesive developer-first API while planning, ideating, experimenting with, and deploying new services and libraries to overcome technical challenges at scale.
Key responsibilities include designing highly scalable, mission-critical market data provider services; maintaining software quality and test coverage; participating in code reviews; and troubleshooting incidents and reported bugs. The role requires deep understanding of POSIX-like operating systems, modern infrastructure, and orchestration practices.
Required qualifications: BSc/MSc in Computer Science or equivalent; minimum 3 years backend software development experience; hands-on experience with Docker or Kubernetes; DevOps mindset; knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies. Nice-to-haves include experience with large datasets, Kubernetes certifications (CKA/CKAD), SQL, IP networking, financial markets knowledge, major cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure), shell scripting, Linux, microservice architectures, and clean code principles.
Tech stack: GoLang (primary) and Python; REST, gRPC, Websockets, SSE; Docker and Kubernetes; Google Cloud Services (GKE, BigTable); Prometheus, Grafana, ELK.
