Salary: USD 140,000 - 250,000 / annual

Hadrian is building autonomous factories to reindustrialize American manufacturing, combining AI, advanced software, robotics, and full-stack manufacturing to help aerospace and defense companies build rockets, satellites, aircraft, ships, and mission-critical systems up to 10x faster and at significantly lower cost. The company recently raised $1.37B in Series D funding at a $7.87B valuation and is rapidly expanding its manufacturing footprint and Factory-as-a-Service platform. The Software Engineer, Machine Interfaces role is part of Hadrian's Autonomous Factory Systems division, which builds the software enabling factories to sense, decide, and act autonomously. This includes the core robotics stack, orchestration between robots and manufacturing machines, and the hardware abstraction layer connecting software to factory floor equipment. Key responsibilities include developing software to interface with industrial machines, PLCs, and manufacturing equipment; creating human-machine interfaces for technicians to control and monitor automation; ensuring seamless integration of automated manufacturing systems; building data logging pipelines for connected devices that feed operational planning and factory scheduling; and collaborating with robotics, mechanical, controls, and operations teams to conceptualize, deploy, and upgrade manufacturing cells. The ideal candidate has a minimum of 2-3 years of software engineering experience and is proficient in Python, TypeScript, or C#. Strong ability to work directly with hardware on the factory floor is essential, along with demonstrated ability to make decisions with incomplete information and deliver complex systems on schedule. The role requires flexibility to travel up to 10% annually as Hadrian scales across the country. Experience that sets candidates apart includes developing software for physical systems in manufacturing, industrial automation, or 3D printing; familiarity with industrial communication protocols like OPC UA or Profinet; hands-on experience with electronics, embedded systems, low-level networking, TCP/IP, socket programming, real-time or safety-critical systems, or hardware-in-the-loop testing. ITAR compliance is required: candidates must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, or eligible to obtain required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
