Chainguard is building the secure, reliable factory that continuously builds, verifies, and serves hardened open-source libraries to Fortune 500 enterprises and global leaders including OpenAI, Snap, and Snowflake. The Libraries Platform team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the architecture and implementation of the core platform powering this factory: the services, APIs, and automation that make libraries reproducible, trustworthy, and always up to date.
In this infrastructure-centric, platform role, you will design and implement core components including build and packaging pipelines, a package index serving external customers and internal teams, and shared services across multiple ecosystems (Java, JavaScript, Python/AI/ML). Key responsibilities include:
- Lead design and implementation of services, pipelines, and package index powering secure, reproducible build, test, and distribution workflows across language ecosystems
- Design and maintain automation for artifact creation, updates, and verification, including vulnerability scanning, remediation workflows, SBOM and provenance generation, and policy enforcement
- Build toward novel patch generation, developing AI-assisted patching automation that generates security fixes with rigorous testing and verification
- Build and operate shared platform services such as package indexes, registry mirrors, metadata services, and orchestration tooling
- Develop internal developer tools and CLIs (often in Go) that improve how the team builds, tests, and ships libraries at scale
- Drive reliability, scalability, and observability: define SLOs, build monitoring and alerting, lead incident response
- Solve complex dependency and build issues in production, from toolchain and compiler problems to CI/CD flakiness
- Partner closely with ecosystem teams, Platform, Delivery, Sustaining, and Security to ensure platform meets reliability and security requirements
- Mentor and unblock other engineers through design reviews, documentation, and hands-on debugging
You'll work on infrastructure that serves packages at scale, automates CVE remediation and verification workflows, powers AI-driven package builds, and provides shared services across language ecosystems.
