You will join the backend engineering team responsible for building and evolving Legion's high-performance, data-driven Java enterprise application. This application implements sophisticated scheduling and optimization algorithms and provides endpoints for web and mobile frontends. As a Software Engineer, you'll contribute to the full software development lifecycle—from design and scoping through implementation, testing, delivery, and maintenance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop high-quality features on schedule, with thorough understanding of the product area
- Collaborate with senior engineers and architects on feature design
- Write secure, efficient, enterprise-quality Java code following best practices
- Own product quality: write unit tests, test features before QA, and fix incoming bugs daily
- Design and build robust, scalable, performant solutions end-to-end
- Make data-driven technical decisions and debug challenging problems
- Participate in design reviews and code reviews, maintaining high standards
- Contribute to sprint and quarterly planning
- Demonstrate the Legion product end-to-end
The tech stack includes Spring Boot, Hibernate, MySQL, JSON, and AWS. The application runs on containerized cloud deployments. You'll work with a remote, mission-driven, globally distributed team across all time zones.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline
- 3–4 years with backend technologies (Java, Spring Boot, MySQL)
- 3–4 years building multi-tenant SaaS applications
- 3–4 years designing and building APIs
- 3+ years delivering software in a cloud-based environment (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Professional software development experience
- Proficiency in Java or C++ with strong object-oriented design skills
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted coding tools (Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) and judgment to review, test, and validate AI-generated code
- Working knowledge of application architecture and design patterns
- Experience across the full software development lifecycle
- Knowledge of professional software engineering best practices (coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, operations)
- Exposure to distributed/scalable systems and high-volume transaction applications
- Demonstrated ability to own features end-to-end from design through production
- Strong communication skills and ability to write clear technical documents
- Strong work ethic focused on prioritization, action, and results
