Twilio is seeking a Staff Engineer to own the architecture, implementation, and long-term technical direction of the Android Voice and Video SDKs. This is a high-impact role where you'll shape the developer experience for thousands of customers relying on Twilio's communications infrastructure.
You will own the Android SDK architecture and technical backlog, leading development and maintenance of Voice and Video SDKs including the underlying WebRTC, ReSiprocate, and C++ layers. Key responsibilities include driving build pipeline stability, participating in CI/CD migration efforts, defining Android best practices across the organization, and collaborating with iOS, JavaScript, and React Native teams on cross-platform convergence.
You'll conduct thorough code reviews, hold quality and test coverage standards, partner with product and platform leads on roadmap feasibility and estimation, and contribute to knowledge sharing to reduce single points of failure. Additional duties include enhancing automated test coverage, owning the customer developer experience, monitoring and triaging customer and GitHub issues, and maintaining Twilio Voice and Video Android reference applications.
Required qualifications include 10+ years of software engineering experience with strong Android development focus, deep expertise in the Android ecosystem and SDK development, proficiency in Java/Kotlin and C++, and familiarity with CI/CD systems. Experience with real-time communication technologies (WebRTC, SIP, RTP) is strongly preferred. You should demonstrate strong communication skills, ability to work cross-functionally and influence without authority, experience mentoring engineers, and familiarity with AI tools like Claude and GitHub Copilot.
