Twilio is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (L3) to own the technical strategy for the Phone Numbers Platform, a critical system processing millions of requests globally. This role sits at the intersection of infrastructure, AI-driven development, and telecommunications compliance. You will architect and implement the modernization of legacy systems into a distributed microservices architecture supporting global scale. The platform handles sophisticated orchestration of global inventory, real-time identity verification (KYC), and automated regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions. Key responsibilities include: - Contributing significantly to the architecture and long-term technical roadmap, driving the transition to modern, scalable infrastructure - Leading by example in AI-augmented development workflows using GitHub Copilot, Claude, and internal LLMs to accelerate code generation, automate testing, and enable rapid prototyping - Owning technical excellence through critical architectural decisions that balance rapid feature innovation with reliability and security - Translating complex global telecommunications regulations and customer needs into elegant, developer-first APIs - Mentoring junior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of technical curiosity and ownership - Identifying and mitigating technical risks early, from scalability bottlenecks to security vulnerabilities - Articulating technical designs and system trade-offs through design documents, RFCs, and collaborative discussions Required qualifications: - 5+ years designing and developing highly available, high-scale, secure, mission-critical cloud-native distributed systems - Strong proficiency in Java or Python with solid AWS knowledge (Lambda, EKS, DynamoDB, Kafka) - Experience with distributed systems, microservices architecture, and cloud infrastructure - Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead technical teams Twilio is a remote-first company with a global, inclusive culture.
