Snowflake is hiring software engineers for its European Engineering Center in Berlin to join the Java Platform team. This role focuses on building and maintaining the core Java infrastructure and JVM systems that power Snowflake's data cloud platform, impacting millions of users globally.
As a Software Engineer on the Java Platform team, you will contribute to building next-generation systems that make Java safe, efficient, and secure. You'll help provide a consistent, high-performance platform that Snowflake engineers rely on to deliver production solutions. Key responsibilities include identifying and resolving performance and availability issues, implementing effective solutions with appropriate instrumentation, collaborating with global teams to tackle large-scale data infrastructure challenges, and continuously improving reliability and performance through proactive monitoring and automation.
The office is located at Potsdamer Platz in central Berlin, easily accessible by public transport and bicycle, with abundant nearby amenities. The working language is English. REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience building, supporting, and troubleshooting complex Java systems
- Strong understanding of Java fundamentals, including the JVM and core libraries
- Solid computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems
- Eagerness to learn JVM internals and performance tuning
- Ability to thrive in collaborative environments
- BS in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience (advanced degrees a plus)
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with multi-threading, concurrency, and caching
- Knowledge of database or Linux internals
- Previous work on large-scale, high-performance systems
