Bitpanda is a European fintech platform serving 7+ million customers, offering cryptocurrency, stocks, precious metals, and commodities trading. The Prime Services team is building low-latency, highly available backend systems for margin trading.
In this role, you will design and develop scalable, resilient, message-driven services using Java 25 and Micronaut. You'll own critical infrastructure spanning leverage and collateral management, real-time risk assessment, and automated liquidation engines. Key responsibilities include:
- Design and develop scalable microservices using Java 17+ with modern frameworks (Micronaut/Spring Boot)
- Write clean, well-tested code with 80%+ unit test coverage, including end-to-end and integration testing
- Optimize payment modules and services for reliability, maintainability, performance, and scalability
- Create and maintain publicly available REST APIs with strong performance optimization and scalability focus
- Work with event-driven microservices architecture using message-oriented middleware (Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS, or ZeroMQ)
- Drive innovation by researching and adopting latest backend development trends and technologies
- Mentor junior developers, providing technical guidance and career support
You'll collaborate closely with product, quantitative, and risk teams, directly shaping how clients access leverage and how Bitpanda manages credit risk at scale.
Required qualifications: 4+ years software development experience with modern frameworks; strong Java 17+ expertise; understanding of relational and non-relational databases (Postgres, MongoDB preferred); REST API design and performance optimization experience; practical knowledge of message-oriented middleware; CI/CD familiarity with AWS and Kubernetes experience ideal.
