Beacon Biosignals is transforming precision medicine for the brain through at-home EEG platforms and digital diagnostics. The Datastore team sits at the heart of the platform, defining the foundational data model and serving as the centralized repository and API for brain data collected from clinical studies. As a Software Engineer IV on the Datastore team, you will lead the design and scaling of complex backend systems for data infrastructure. This role emphasizes PostgreSQL data modeling, Kafka-driven event pipelines, and the GraphQL API that makes scientific and clinical data usable across Beacon's platform. You will own the design of complex systems within the Datastore rather than individual components, manage pipelines that deliver dataset snapshots into the warehouse, and collaborate across platform, application, and scientific teams to implement APIs that unlock new workflows. Success in this role means leading architecture decisions for complex projects, partnering with product managers and scientific stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable solutions, and debugging problems that cross system boundaries. You will draft RFCs to guide technical design phases, mentor other engineers, and improve operational robustness through documentation, tools, and dashboards. Peers will look to your work as an example of attention to detail, product awareness, and high standards for data integrity and maintainability. You will write SQL by hand regularly, reason about schema design and query behavior, and contribute to broader product and technical decisions. The role requires balancing speed, generalizability, and technical debt while accounting for the needs of multiple stakeholder teams.
