Beacon AI is building an AI platform to make flying safer, more efficient, and more capable, backed by top investors with a dozen Department of Defense contracts and partnerships with major airlines. The company operates with small, focused teams that own what they build, ship quickly, and learn fast. You will join the mobile team to develop high-impact iOS applications primarily targeting iPad that support the flight safety platform. Working closely with senior engineers and designers, you'll develop user-facing features for production systems that handle real-time, safety-critical data. Key responsibilities include designing and implementing iOS features using Swift, SwiftUI, and UIKit; building high-performance mobile applications that efficiently handle large datasets like wind and weather data; developing Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) features including location services, map navigation, and aviation instrument displays; integrating with external hardware and edge devices for real-time data ingestion; architecting offline-first experiences and graceful degradation strategies for low/no connectivity environments; implementing background processing using Swift Concurrency and async/await; applying data security best practices including Keychain storage and encryption; collaborating with senior engineers and designers; participating in code reviews; and ensuring code quality through testing and documentation. You should have 3+ years of iOS development experience with Swift and SwiftUI, some UIKit exposure, and familiarity with common iOS frameworks. Experience with EFB applications, location services, Mapbox or MapKit, external hardware integration, and real-time data pipelines is valuable. You'll demonstrate ability to optimize performance, handle large datasets, build offline-first applications with local caching and sync strategies, manage background processing, understand iOS data security practices, and work with asynchronous programming concepts. Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn from feedback are essential, along with ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-moving environment. Bonus qualifications include iPad-specific optimization experience, passion for aviation, experience with safety-critical systems, CI/CD workflows, and interest in real-time data and hardware-adjacent systems. This is a hybrid role based in San Carlos, CA, requiring 3+ days per week onsite with flexibility to work remotely on remaining days. Full-time employees receive comprehensive healthcare (100% employee medical premiums covered, 25% for dependents), 3 weeks PTO plus 13+ paid company holidays, monthly phone and wellness stipends, and 401(k) offering.
