Salary: USD 260,000 - 300,000 / annual
Cognition AI is an applied AI lab building end-to-end software agents, known for Devin (the first AI software engineer) and Windsurf (an AI-native IDE). The company is a talent-dense team of competitive programmers, former founders, and researchers from leading AI and infrastructure companies.
As a Software Engineer, Infrastructure, you will own the systems that power Cognition's products at scale. Your responsibilities include designing and operating sandboxed compute environments for Devin's task execution, including VM orchestration, container management, and resource scheduling. You'll build and maintain the developer platform that internal engineers depend on daily—CI/CD pipelines, deployment systems, developer tooling, and abstractions that enable rapid shipping.
You will drive reliability and observability across the infrastructure, defining SLOs, building monitoring and alerting systems, leading incident response, and ensuring the same failure never happens twice. As the product scales, you'll anticipate capacity and architecture needs before they become bottlenecks, making deliberate infrastructure investments that stay ahead of growth.
You'll partner closely with product engineers and researchers to understand system requirements and design infrastructure that meets those needs without unnecessary complexity. This role requires deep systems engineering expertise with large-scale distributed infrastructure, hands-on proficiency with Kubernetes and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), and strong software engineering fundamentals in Python. You should have observability instincts, experience with sandboxing and secure multi-tenant compute, and ideally prior experience at a frontier AI lab, applied AI company, or developer tools company. A degree from a top-tier university in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related technical discipline is expected.
