Rent the Runway is seeking a Software Engineer II/III to join its European Technology Hub in Galway, Ireland. You'll work on the eCommerce Platform team, building and operating critical cloud-scale microservices that power checkout, orders, and revenue-critical customer flows. Your responsibilities include developing the internal CX support application using ReactJS, owning features end-to-end from frontend through Java/Kotlin backend services and APIs, integrating third-party providers (payments, fraud, tax systems), and improving platform quality, reliability, scalability, and observability as the system grows. You'll collaborate cross-functionally with stakeholders, mentor teammates through code review and technical guidance, and help deprecate outdated functionality while maintaining a sustainable engineering pace.
The ideal candidate has 4+ years of practical software engineering experience with a CS degree or equivalent. You should be hands-on with ReactJS, TypeScript, JavaScript, Java, Kotlin, SpringBoot, Maven, and npm. Experience is required with cloud/web-scale microservices, GCP (Terraform, Kubernetes), GitHub (git, GitHub Actions), AMQP/RabbitMQ, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, and Splunk. You'll demonstrate proven ability building responsive, well-tested web applications with strong component architecture and state management skills. Solid OOP and design pattern knowledge, backend service and API development experience, and an eye for UX detail are essential. You should have shipped multiple large, complex projects, pick up new tools quickly, communicate clearly, collaborate inclusively, and mentor teammates. An owner's mindset—taking initiative, following through, balancing priorities, and leaving things better—is critical. Comfort with AI-assisted development tools (Gemini CLI, Claude, Copilot) is valued.
