Flock Safety is seeking a Software Engineer III to own the device connectivity stack for their edge camera infrastructure. You will advance their Android-based system stack with focus on cellular connectivity, fleet stability, and a 5G upgrade roadmap. This is a low-level embedded systems role, not mobile app development. Key responsibilities include engineering AOSP system initialization routines, image partitioning, file system structures, and SELinux access policies. You'll optimize cellular stack integrations spanning LTE and 5G modems, Radio Interface Layer components, AT commands, and eSIM configurations. You'll analyze device telemetry and network metrics to diagnose complex fleet anomalies across hardware boundaries, RF environments, and user space. Cross-functional collaboration with Hardware, Product, and Infrastructure teams is essential to design power-aware connectivity states for extreme seasonal conditions. Required qualifications: practical experience in embedded systems or OS-level development with deep knowledge of low-level Android OS architectures and AOSP internals. Hands-on expertise with cellular networking stacks including LTE/5G modems, Radio Interface Layer integrations, AT commands, and SIM/eSIM management. Technical understanding of SELinux security policies, permissions management, and debugging system access restrictions. Proficiency in networking protocols including TCP/IP, routing tables, Wi-Fi architectures, and data optimization techniques. Bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or related technical field required. Desirable: experience with Qualcomm chipsets, software tools, or cellular telemetry logs. This role is fully remote for US-based candidates. Flock is a 1,700-person company backed by over $1B in funding, focused on public safety technology supporting over 1 million criminal investigations annually.
