ClassPass, part of the Playlist ecosystem, is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to build and maintain performant backend systems that power a global platform connecting people with fitness, wellness, and lifestyle experiences. You'll work on large-scale SaaS applications serving thousands of users worldwide, partnering closely with Product, Design, and QA teams to deliver features from conception through deployment.
In this role, you'll champion engineering best practices including automated testing, peer reviews, observability, and elegant system design. You'll lead and influence architecture decisions that prioritize scalability and simplicity, working with microservice architectures and modern backend technologies. You'll mentor other engineers and help foster a collaborative, inclusive engineering culture while maintaining a focus on how your work supports both business partners and their communities.
You'll approach development with empathy and clarity, balancing innovation with reliability. The role emphasizes seeking feedback, iterating quickly, and solving the right problems with big-picture thinking grounded in delivering user value.
Required experience includes senior-level development of large-scale SaaS applications, proficiency in languages such as Kotlin, Java, .NET, C#, TypeScript, or JavaScript, and expertise designing APIs and working with microservice architectures. You should have deep understanding of SQL and relational databases, familiarity with observability tools like New Relic or Kibana, and strong software development lifecycle practices. Excellent communication skills and ability to navigate complexity and assess tradeoffs are essential.
