Attentive is an AI marketing platform specializing in 1:1 personalization, unifying SMS, RCS, email, and push notifications to deliver real-time behavioral insights. The company partners with over 8,000 customers across 70+ industries, including major brands like Crate and Barrel and Urban Outfitters, powering tens of billions in customer revenue. The Segment Optimization team builds the backbone of Attentive's audience-segmentation infrastructure, processing billions of events daily from over 100 million customers. This team handles data processing, storage, and optimization at massive scale, enabling near-real-time audience insights and AI-driven personalization. As a Software Engineer II, you will own well-scoped features end-to-end across distributed data applications, from design and implementation through testing, deployment, and operation. You'll build and improve systems that power audience segmentation, directly enabling personalized experiences across the platform. Your work will involve designing and implementing distributed data pipelines, understanding how data flows through the platform, and collaborating with engineering, product, and design teams to deliver high-quality software. Key responsibilities include: building systems that serve 100+ million customers; owning features end-to-end in distributed data applications; partnering with cross-functional teams on design and implementation decisions; developing deep understanding of owned services and their customer impact; contributing to team-wide infrastructure and process improvements; and leveraging AI tools to move quickly while maintaining focus on system behavior and architecture. You should have 2–4 years of backend software engineering experience with a foundation in distributed systems. Required skills include proficiency in Java, Python, or Go; strong understanding of object-oriented design, algorithms, and optimization; familiarity with relational and non-relational databases; and knowledge of how data modeling affects system performance. You take ownership beyond assigned tasks, communicate clearly with technical and non-technical teammates, and are comfortable working through ambiguity to turn business goals into clear deliverables.
