Abnormal AI is building a mission-critical data platform to support enterprise cybersecurity products protecting the world's largest organizations against email and collaboration application attacks. The Multi-Product Platform (MPP) organization owns the product platform that enables scalable product development across the company.
In this role, you will design and build the standardized data access layer—the single source of truth through which all systems, agents, and interfaces access data across every product. This is a 0→1 platform problem: the layer must serve the entire platform at high throughput and low latency without becoming a bottleneck, while enforcing tenant isolation, authentication, and fine-grained access control. You'll own this system end-to-end, defining the foundation every product is built on.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, build, and iterate on APIs and services that make up the standardized data access layer
- Drive adoption of API-gated data sources so product teams expose data once and consuming surfaces reuse it
- Design and implement standard labeling for data ownership and validation logic
- Own reliability and stability of components you build
- Contribute to architectural decisions and write technical design documents
- Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and on-call rotation
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineering teams on adoption
- Share knowledge and help establish team-level patterns and best practices
Required qualifications:
- 4+ years of software engineering industry experience with strong fundamentals
- Production code experience in Python and/or Golang
- Working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases
- System design expertise and experience building reliable, scalable applications
- Strong understanding of service health, monitoring, fault tolerance, and incident response
- Ability to own complex, multi-component features end-to-end
- Technical writing and design review skills
- Excellent communication and ability to work autonomously in remote/asynchronous settings
Nice-to-have skills include experience designing data access layers or platforms for other engineering teams, treating internal platforms as products, familiarity with GenAI tools, and big data platform experience.
