The Engineering team at Brex includes Data, IT, Security, and Software disciplines, responsible for building innovative products and infrastructure. Teams are autonomous yet collaborative, focused on learning, teaching, and continuously improving systems.
This Software Engineer II role is based in the São Paulo office in a hybrid environment requiring a minimum of three coordinated days in-office per week (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday), with up to four weeks per year of fully remote work available.
You will design and build strong, resilient APIs, libraries, and tools to power Brex engineers and operations. You'll own functionality and scalability features from inception through deployment, taking responsibility for the full software development lifecycle including design, development, testing, and production operations. You'll uphold high engineering standards and bring consistency to codebases, infrastructure, and processes.
The role focuses on building customer-facing products that drive direct business impact and shape long-term technical vision. You'll be encouraged to be metric and data-driven, thinking creatively to help Brex scale and enter new markets.
**Requirements:**
- 3+ years of experience as a software engineer
- Experience creating libraries and tools for engineers and operations
- Experience building and designing scalable backend systems
- Experience working with SQL or NoSQL databases
- Familiarity with software engineering development cycles
- Experience with backend programming languages (Java, Kotlin, Python)
- Ability to hold yourself and the team to high standards
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- English proficiency/fluency, both written and spoken (interviews conducted in English)
