Hims & Hers is a public healthtech company (NYSE: HIMS) building a patient health data platform that powers both patient and provider experiences. As a Software Engineer II on the Patient team, you will design and implement moderately complex, scalable backend solutions working independently on well-scoped projects within a squad structure. Key responsibilities include: designing and building medium-complexity, scalable, maintainable solutions using SOLID and DRY principles; writing technical design documents that guide implementation; developing modular, testable code with strong testing practices (unit, integration, end-to-end); providing constructive code reviews; owning technical debt and balancing it against feature work; participating in product discovery to assess feasibility; ensuring clean integration across systems and services; implementing observability (logging, monitoring, alerting); identifying and resolving performance/reliability issues; breaking down projects into actionable tasks; analyzing metrics and user feedback; maintaining technical documentation; sharing knowledge with peers; and contributing to hiring and onboarding. Required qualifications: 2+ years shipping production code as a software engineer; experience with backend distributed systems and microservice architectures; Bachelor's in Computer Science or equivalent; experience building scalable web applications in cloud environments (AWS/Kubernetes); relational database experience (PostgreSQL preferred); CI/CD and automated testing experience; strong problem-solving and communication skills; ability to take ownership with minimal supervision. Preferred: healthcare tech or connected device data experience; front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, React, React Native, NextJS, GraphQL); Node.js, Redis, or Kotlin; web performance optimization.
