Join Lila's Lab Software Team (LaS) as a Software Engineer II to build cutting-edge tools for automated scientific analysis and AI-driven laboratory automation. You'll work at the intersection of software engineering and life sciences, designing and building the full stack that connects Lila's AI platform to physical laboratory instruments and AI Science Factories (AISFs). Your responsibilities will span backend and full-stack development: designing high-performance APIs and UIs for lab integration, architecting database schemas across SQL, NoSQL, and vector databases, and optimizing system performance at scale. You'll own components of the lab orchestration layer, instrument integrations, and bi-directional data transfer pipelines. The role involves significant cloud infrastructure work using AWS, Kubernetes, and modern DevOps practices, as well as cross-functional collaboration with ML researchers, data engineers, and scientists. You'll need 2–5 years of production engineering experience with strong backend fundamentals. The tech stack includes Python, FastAPI, React, TypeScript, and Tailwind on the frontend, plus SQL/NoSQL databases and cloud orchestration platforms. Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants is required. Bonus experience includes laboratory software for life sciences, lab automation and robotics, orchestration systems (Airflow, Prefect, Temporal, Dagster), and AWS/Kubernetes/infrastructure-as-code. This is a full-time, in-office role in Cambridge, MA. The company offers competitive base salary ($120k–$180k USD), early-stage equity, comprehensive benefits (medical, dental, vision, life/disability insurance, flexible PTO, parental leave, educational assistance, commuter benefits), and a subsidized lunch program.
