Klaviyo's Infrastructure Security team is seeking a Software Engineer II to design, build, and maintain cloud-native security services that enable engineers across the organization to ship secure software confidently. This role sits at the intersection of security, infrastructure, and software engineering, focusing on building reliable, secure, and performant distributed systems at global scale. You will own meaningful components and services end-to-end, from implementation through production operation. Key responsibilities include designing and maintaining cloud-native security services, improving availability and scalability of infrastructure security systems, collaborating with senior engineers on system design and architecture, and identifying performance and reliability issues in distributed systems. You'll work extensively with Python, Go, AWS, Kubernetes, and Terraform, and participate actively in design reviews, code reviews, and whiteboarding sessions. Operational excellence is central to the role: you'll contribute to monitoring, alerting, and incident response, participate in an on-call rotation focused on learning and prevention, and build tooling and automation that improves developer experience and security posture. You'll partner with product-facing and platform engineers to ship impactful, secure solutions. Required qualifications include 3+ years of experience building and operating cloud-native, distributed systems in production, proficiency writing production-quality code in Python or Go, hands-on experience with AWS (or similar cloud provider) including managed services, networking, and IAM concepts, and experience with containers and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes. You should be comfortable owning services independently while knowing when to seek feedback, understand scalable multi-tenant architectures and secure system design, and care deeply about reliability, performance, observability, and security. Comfort with on-call participation and strong communication and collaboration skills are essential. Nice-to-have skills include experience building or integrating security-focused systems (secrets management, IAM, authn/z, policy enforcement), familiarity with service meshes, API gateways, or zero-trust architectures, and experience improving performance in distributed systems or debugging complex multi-service workflows.
