Okta is hiring a Senior Frontend Engineer to build user interfaces for autonomous AI agents. This is a high-impact individual contributor role focused on creating novel interaction patterns for long-running AI workers.
You will own the complete frontend experience for agentic AI, including: conversational interfaces with streaming responses and mid-task steering controls; memory management views that let users inspect and edit agent context; live agent run timelines showing plans, steps, and results in real time; human-in-the-loop approval surfaces for agent actions; and a natural-language worker builder interface. You'll also manage complex client state for long-running sessions, build reusable component libraries for agentic patterns, and handle model outputs honestly in the UI with citations, uncertainty, and error states.
You will work daily with backend and agent engineers to shape the APIs and event streams your interfaces consume, optimize performance across devices, and define what agentic interfaces look like—most patterns you ship do not exist yet.
Required: 3+ years of frontend engineering with deep React, TypeScript, and modern state management expertise. Production experience building chat, copilot, or LLM-powered interfaces. Hands-on experience with real-time UIs (WebSockets, server-sent events, streaming rendering, reconnection handling). Strong product sense and ability to design interaction patterns from scratch. Experience integrating frontends with LLM APIs and handling streamed/partial/structured outputs. Strong communication and user collaboration skills.
Bonus: shipped chat or agent products at scale; familiarity with agent frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph) and AI SDKs (Vercel AI SDK); design systems and accessibility expertise; experience visualizing complex processes; background at high-growth venture-backed AI or SaaS startups.
