Flock Safety is seeking a Software Engineer II for Forward Deployment to bridge product engineering with real-world customer deployments. In this customer-facing role, you will lead technical discovery conversations, manage software integrations end-to-end from scoping through deployment, and work directly with municipal and enterprise customers to implement integrations across diverse systems.
Key responsibilities include configuring and maintaining software tools that connect Flock technology with customer applications and networks, diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues involving REST APIs, networking configurations, authentication, and data formats. You will create technical documentation, implementation guides, and troubleshooting resources to standardize customer onboarding. You'll partner with internal Engineering and Product teams to feed implementation insights into core product improvements.
This is not a desk-bound role—you will travel regionally 25-50% of the time for customer deployments and onsite discovery. It's also not a reactive support function; you will write integration code, design technical workflows, and proactively guide implementation architecture. While customer-facing, the primary focus is technical implementation and software execution rather than sales.
Required qualifications: professional software engineering experience with Python, Java, C++, or JavaScript; practical proficiency with SQL, REST APIs, authentication mechanisms, and data formats (JSON, XML, CSV); working knowledge of networking concepts (VPNs, firewalls, IP allowlisting, SSL/TLS); strong written and verbal communication skills; willingness to travel 25-50%. Prior experience in customer-facing engineering, cloud platforms, or containerization is a plus.
