BigCommerce's Engineering Services team is seeking a Software Engineer II to design, build, and maintain single-click apps for the BigCommerce App Marketplace. This role sits within the professional services organization and focuses on delivering merchant-facing applications and data migration solutions.
You'll own the full lifecycle of apps—from design and development through publishing, versioning, and maintenance. The team also builds shared foundations including OAuth-based install flows, webhook processing, and services that scale across thousands of merchant stores. You'll work with short feedback loops and see your code ship to real stores quickly.
Key responsibilities include collaborating on full-stack development (Node/TypeScript and PHP backends, React frontends), integrating deeply with BigCommerce platform APIs (REST, GraphQL, webhooks, OAuth), writing performant and maintainable code with appropriate test coverage, supporting apps in production (monitoring, troubleshooting, bug resolution), and contributing to data migration projects. You'll participate in code reviews, partner with Product Managers and solutions architects to translate merchant requirements into technical designs, and occasionally join client conversations.
You bring 3+ years of professional software engineering experience with solid programming fundamentals. You have hands-on experience with JavaScript/TypeScript (Node) and/or PHP on the backend, and React/Next.js on the frontend—depth in one area with willingness to work across the stack. You understand multi-tenant architecture (one app, thousands of stores) and the performance and data-isolation considerations that entails. You're comfortable context-switching across concurrent projects, picking up unfamiliar codebases quickly, and have excellent interpersonal skills for collaborating across teams and explaining technical concepts to non-engineers. You're driven to own work from inception to delivery and thrive in collaborative, customer-focused environments.
Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent; completion of a comprehensive software engineering bootcamp is also valued. Bonus experience with ecommerce platforms, BigCommerce APIs, or marketplace/app-store distribution models.
