Salary: USD 146,000 - 225,000 / annual
Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, offering buy-now-pay-later solutions without hidden fees or compounding interest. The Post-Transaction team owns everything that happens after a card transaction settles, building and operating systems that keep customer accounts accurate and resolve issues when something goes wrong. This team works closely with card issuing, transaction processing, and money movement teams.
As Affirm expands its card offerings, post-transaction volume and complexity continue to grow. You will work on systems that directly determine whether customers receive accurate resolutions and timely communications after transactions, collaborating with product, compliance, and cross-functional partners.
In this role, you will break down larger projects into individual tasks and deliver them in multiple phases with support from your tech lead and manager. You'll collaborate with product management, design, and analytics during ideation, articulate technical constraints, and partner on decisions that consider risks and trade-offs. You'll support the operations and availability of your team's systems by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and participating in on-call efforts. You'll also contribute to team community through growth activities and participation in the interview process.
You should have 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer with expertise designing, developing, and launching backend systems. Proficiency in Python or Kotlin is required. You're familiar with distributed systems building blocks and technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes. You excel at translating business scenarios into solutions that interact with multiple software components, writing clear, well-tested, and extensible code. You're comfortable navigating large codebases, debugging others' code, and providing constructive feedback through code reviews. You demonstrate ownership of your growth by proactively seeking feedback from your team, manager, and stakeholders. Strong verbal and written communication skills support effective collaboration with a global engineering team. A Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience is required.
