Affirm is hiring a Software Engineer II for the Identity Decisioning team, which builds backend systems responsible for validating consumer identity across all Affirm products while satisfying regulatory protocols like KYC (Know Your Customer). The team partners closely with Product, Compliance, Auth, Fraud, and other engineering teams to deliver transparent financial products that help consumers make purchasing decisions. In this role, you will break down larger projects into individual tasks and deliver them in multiple phases, collaborating with team members to ensure timely delivery. You'll support the product development lifecycle by working with product management, design, and analytics teams—participating in ideation, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on decisions that balance risks and trade-offs. You'll also contribute to the operations and availability of your team's systems by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating issues when needed, and supporting on-call efforts. Additionally, you'll contribute to team culture through growth and development activities, including participation in the interview process. This is a remote-first role with flexibility built in. Most roles can be done from almost anywhere within the US. All new hires will be invited to attend an in-person onboarding experience. REQUIREMENTS: - 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer - Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems - Proficiency in Python or Kotlin - Familiarity with distributed systems building blocks and technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes - Ability to translate business scenarios into solutions that interact with multiple software components, executing with clear, well-tested, and extensible code - Comfortable navigating large codebases, debugging others' code, and providing feedback through code reviews - Demonstrated ownership of your own growth, proactively seeking feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders - Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with global engineering teams - Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience
