As a Software Engineer II – Backend, you will design, build, and operate scalable backend services powering identity verification and fraud prevention products. You'll take ownership of software from design through production, working closely with Engineering, Product, Infrastructure, and Data Science/ML teams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, build, test, and operate backend services, APIs, and microservices
- Develop reliable, secure, and maintainable production software
- Work on distributed systems, asynchronous workflows, messaging, and event-driven architectures
- Contribute to technical design and make thoughtful engineering trade-offs
- Troubleshoot production issues and improve system reliability and observability
- Participate in code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, and engineering best practices
- Collaborate with globally distributed, cross-functional teams
Required qualifications:
- Practical backend software engineering experience building applications or services
- Strong programming skills in Go, Java, Python, or comparable backend language
- Good understanding of data structures, algorithms, APIs, microservices, and distributed systems
- Experience with SQL and/or NoSQL databases
- Understanding of asynchronous processing, messaging, retries, fault tolerance, and service-to-service communication
- Familiarity with cloud-native technologies (AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, or equivalents)
- Understanding of source control, automated testing, CI/CD, and modern software development practices
- Ability to troubleshoot technical problems methodically and own solutions through production
- Clear communication and cross-team collaboration skills
Permanent right to work in the UK is required; no visa sponsorship available. Candidates must be based in London or within commutable distance with ability to attend office as needed.
