Valon is building an AI-native operating system for regulated finance, starting with mortgage servicing. As a Series C company backed by a16z, Valon has taken a unique approach: rather than build on legacy systems, the company operates its own mortgage servicing business managing $110+ billion in loans. This deep operational expertise informs the development of ValonOS, a unified platform that makes every process structured and programmable—perfectly positioned for the AI era. The company has transformed mortgage servicing from a 0% margin business into 60%+ margins while dramatically improving customer experience.
As a Software Engineer II, you will be responsible for designing and building robust, extensible infrastructure to handle evolving and complex federal, state, and agency regulations. You'll work on the foundation of a modern mortgage servicing platform that accurately handles billions of dollars at scale. Key responsibilities include learning new concepts and technologies quickly and applying them to challenging problems, diving deep to understand the inner workings of a highly complex industry, and collaborating with Product and Design to define the best customer experience.
You'll join an engineering team composed of exceptional people from companies like Stripe, Jane Street, Meta, and Google. The tech stack includes Python, React, Docker, Kubernetes, and Google Cloud Platform. You'll have significant autonomy to learn quickly, execute effectively, and deliver high business impact. The role offers the opportunity to work on one of the most outdated and regulated spaces in the financial sector—mortgage servicing—with the goal of transforming regulated industries and beyond.
