Tripadvisor is seeking a Software Engineer II (Android) to join its fast-growing mobile team within Tripadvisor Experiences. This is a hybrid role based in London or Oxford, with a remote-first working model and periodic in-person gatherings for team collaboration.
You will be an Android-focused, full-stack engineer working primarily on Android systems with occasional backend projects. The role emphasizes writing code and solving diverse technical challenges. You'll work closely with product managers and designers throughout the full software lifecycle—from design and implementation through testing, deployment, and maintenance. Most engineers release code to production every few days within a daily release cycle.
The tech stack includes Kotlin, Coroutines, Jetpack Compose, and GraphQL in a modular architecture following clean-architecture principles with MVVM. You'll have opportunities to touch code at multiple levels, including backend microservices, while collaborating with engineering teams globally.
Key responsibilities include developing high-quality Android applications, taking ownership of all aspects of software engineering, breaking down complex problems into simple solutions, and leveraging AI tools to improve efficiency and decision-making. You'll work in a fun, friendly environment where the focus is on getting things done effectively.
Required qualifications: at least 3 years of commercial software development experience, demonstrated Android app development skills, experience with reactive programming in native mobile platforms, familiarity with mobile web and backend technologies, and strong problem-solving abilities. You should have a global-first mindset, willingness to adopt new technologies, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
