Salary: USD 108,000 - 140,000 / annual

Lila Sciences is hiring a Software Engineer to develop the next generation of Lab Instrument Integration Software, a foundational component of their AI-enabled laboratory. The role sits at the intersection of software, science, and hardware, focusing on delivering solutions that accelerate scientific discovery. Key responsibilities include developing robust software to enable communication between robotics and automation hardware (robotic arms, liquid handlers, sensors) and control software, ensuring reliable and efficient hardware integration. You'll seamlessly integrate lab instruments into Lila's next-generation, AI-enabled lab automation infrastructure, managing complex interfaces between cloud and edge infrastructure and device execution. The role involves rigorous testing, debugging, and troubleshooting of drivers to identify and resolve performance issues, bugs, and compatibility challenges. You'll create and maintain clear, comprehensive documentation for driver interfaces, APIs, and integration methods to facilitate use by internal teams and end-users. Collaboration is central—you'll work closely with hardware engineers, software developers, product managers, and end-users to provide technical support and resolve integration challenges. You'll also leverage state-of-the-art coding models and development infrastructure to improve the speed and quality of software delivery. Required qualifications include proficiency in Python, C#/.NET, or other programming languages; demonstrated ability in debugging and problem-solving, preferably with hardware-software integration; strong analytical thinking and structured troubleshooting approaches; and strong verbal and written communication skills for cross-functional collaboration. Bonus experience includes background in science, software development for laboratory automation or robotics in life sciences/pharma, direct work with end-users (scientists, lab technicians), hardware integration and device driver development, and proficiency with Git version control.
