Salary: USD 114,400 - 137,300 / annual
Torc, now part of the Daimler family, is a leader in autonomous driving software for commercial trucks. The Data Engineering team builds secure, scalable systems that enable customers to work with data confidently. This role is part of a distributed, remote-first team with daily standups, planning sessions, and collaborative discussions via Zoom and Slack.
You will work closely with experienced engineers to contribute to AWS-based data ingestion, ETL, and storage solutions that power analytics, simulation, and ML training across the company. Key responsibilities include: creating robust and resilient pipelines to process massive daily volumes of data from vehicle fleets and simulation environments; building and supporting scalable pipelines as part of Torc's Data Factory for ML training at scale; scaling the data lake through distributed storage, data crawling, and discovery; promoting data integrity through validation, versioning, data provenance, and governance; supporting expansion of the data lake through acquisition of internal and external datasets; assisting in development and delivery of cloud-based solutions; collaborating with perception, planning, control, mapping, and vehicle testing teams; supporting implementation of emerging cloud-based capabilities for safety-critical autonomous vehicle software; and participating in business-hours on-call rotation.
Tech stack includes AWS managed services (Lambda, Step Functions, Batch, EventBridge, Athena, Glue), Linux/Bash, Docker, Terraform, Python, React/JavaScript, Datadog, AWS CloudWatch, and Databricks.
Required qualifications: BS/MS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; experience writing Python code; practical Docker and containerization experience; strong commitment to test-driven development, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code; experience with Linux and bash scripting; ability to deploy, troubleshoot, monitor, and maintain Linux systems.
Bonus qualifications include serverless cloud solutions, pandas/numpy, AWS serverless architectures, data storage patterns for robotics/ADAS, database architecture knowledge (relational, NoSQL, vector stores, data warehousing, distributed systems), Databricks platform experience, and Ray for ML/AI workload scaling.
