Higharc is a VC-backed startup ($175M+ raised) transforming how new homes are designed and built. The founding team includes veterans from Autodesk, Electronic Arts, Nike, and Apple, backed by top-tier VCs and 18+ strategic investors from construction, building products, and distribution.
You'll join as Staff Software Engineer leading the technical architecture and delivery of the Home Design Experience (HDE)—a browser-based 3D tool enabling anyone to design a home. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, you'll serve as the primary technical partner to the product/UX lead.
As the HDE team's most experienced engineer, you'll make consequential technical decisions, write production code, and mentor other engineers. Your immediate focus is getting the application into customers' hands while partnering with the platform team to establish shared foundations and patterns for reuse across Higharc applications.
Key responsibilities:
- Rapidly prototype new home design workflows and turn validated concepts into customer-ready software
- Lead development of interactive 3D home design workflows, connecting UI, design data, and real-time 3D scenes into responsive experiences; build AI-supported and agentic interactions
- Own application architecture and technical delivery from prototypes through production, making decisions across frontend, application state, service integration, performance, reliability, and testing
- Partner independently with the product/UX lead: challenge assumptions, identify risks early, propose alternatives, and help prioritize what to build
- Turn ambiguous goals into concrete implementation plans, resolve technical unknowns through working code, and implement critical pieces to maintain delivery momentum
- Collaborate with the platform team to use and improve shared application foundations; identify reusable patterns and help implement and document them
- Mentor less experienced engineers through pairing, code review, and clear technical guidance; establish patterns they can confidently extend
You've shipped products solving genuinely hard problems in ways that feel effortless to end users. You're comfortable being the most senior engineer in the room without needing everything decided upfront, and you know how to narrow scope, ship useful increments, and make technical decisions that support continued delivery.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Track record of personally architecting, building, and shipping substantial web applications with responsibility for technical decisions from initial implementation through production
- Deep hands-on experience with TypeScript, React, and modern web application architecture (application state, API integration, performance, maintainability)
- Strong plus: hands-on experience with Three.js and browser-based 3D applications, especially design or CAD tools
- Genuine enthusiasm for AI-forward development and building AI-supported or agentic product experiences
- Experience making technical decisions independently in partnership with product/design leads; ability to explain tradeoffs, challenge approaches constructively, and commit to a path forward
- Sound judgment about what to build for immediate product versus what to generalize for reuse; experience collaborating across application and platform teams
- Experience helping less experienced engineers deliver through implementation, mentoring, and technical guidance
- Growth mindset and ease with ambiguity in a team and product area still being defined
- Strong instincts for design and craft (though not the designer on the team)
