Astranis is seeking a Software Engineer - Hardware Test to join its rapidly-growing software team. The company builds advanced satellites for high orbits, serving large enterprises, sovereign governments, and the US military. With five satellites on orbit and a backlog exceeding $1 billion in commercial contracts, Astranis is expanding its 450-person engineering team.
In this role, you will design high-level software architecture to support vehicle integration and test operations. You'll collaborate across multiple engineering teams to create and implement comprehensive test plans, develop software for automated testing at both component and integrated levels, and refine specifications from electrical engineers to validate critical flight components.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing software architecture for vehicle integration and test operations
- Working with test instruments and writing drivers for ground support equipment
- Implementing automated testing software at component and system levels
- Refining electrical specifications to validate flight-critical components
- Supporting all development phases from proposal through successful test and flight
- Implementing ground control and telemetry software
- Contributing to team growth through recruitment and hiring
You'll need a Bachelor's degree in CS, EE, or equivalent background, 2-5+ years in embedded systems or hardware development/testing, 3+ years with Python or similar object-oriented scripting languages, and 1+ years each with Linux/shell tools and version control systems. Experience reading schematics, debugging circuits, and using debugging tools (debuggers, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes) is essential. Bonus skills include web development frameworks and databases.
