The Pixel Engine team focuses on platform-level work for rendering and media support, working on core technologies that power Figma's real-time, browser-based design and FigJam products.
In this role, you will specialize in media processing and playback, working on a breadth of platform work including animation primitives, shader-based effects, and video/image import-export support. You'll collaborate closely with teammates across Engineering, Product, Design, Marketing, User Research, and Data Science to build new features and achieve roadmap goals.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting new client-side media features such as image processing pipelines
- Improving performance of media use cases (image and video) within the rendering engine
- Providing end-to-end client support for new codecs and compression algorithms
- Implementing error handling and network retry logic for media rendering scenarios
- Driving guidance, quality, and standards for rendering at Figma
- Mentoring peers and providing thoughtful feedback
- Contributing to org-wide initiatives including onboarding, interview development, and belonging/equity/inclusion efforts
You should have 5+ years of professional experience shipping software with specialization in video/image rendering and playback. Proficiency in C++, TypeScript, or GLSL is expected. Experience with web-based applications, browser performance, real-time collaborative systems, and cross-team collaboration on complex technical projects is highly valued. Figma values curiosity and learning; if you're excited about the role but your background doesn't perfectly match, you're encouraged to apply.
