Hex is building an AI-powered control center for data teams, enabling natural language exploration of data while maintaining governance, reliability, and trustworthiness. As a Fullstack Software Engineer, you'll work across the entire stack—from React/TypeScript frontends and browser-based IDEs to backend language parsers and SQL generation—to shape the core user experience. Key responsibilities include: • Build observability and monitoring tools that give data teams critical visibility into AI agent performance, usage metrics, and conversational audit trails. • Design and implement AI context systems that manage diverse inputs: free-form rules, certified SQL queries, and semantic models. • Create full-stack workflows enabling data teams to govern, debug, and curate the Hex agent's knowledge base, ensuring reliable and trustworthy AI-generated answers. • Solve challenging backend problems around SQL compilation, semantic model development, and serializing database context for deterministic AI outputs. • Tackle complex frontend UX challenges to present large volumes of technical information in clear, actionable, intuitive interfaces. You bring 4+ years of fullstack software engineering experience with React, TypeScript, and/or Python. You have strong fundamentals in both frontend and backend development, with appreciation for elegant UX and robust, scalable architecture. You understand the pain points of modern data teams and data warehouses. You're excited by novel problems in agentic AI reliability, governance, and model curation, and you're pragmatic and action-oriented in delivering high-impact solutions. Tech stack: TypeScript/React frontend with Apollo GraphQL and Redux; Express/Apollo GraphQL backend; Postgres, Redis, Kubernetes; Terraform, Helm, AWS for infrastructure. Role is hybrid (2 days/week in office) based in NYC or SF offices. Competitive salary, equity, comprehensive health benefits, and flexible PTO.
