Kustomer is a conversational CRM platform backed by Battery, Redpoint, and Boldstart Ventures. The company recently completed a $30M Series B (2025) and is expanding its AI-native platform and product innovation.
You'll join the Engineering team as a Full Stack Software Engineer working within a pod—a 3–5 person team that owns high-priority initiatives end-to-end. You'll ship new capabilities, improve performance, and contribute to architectural evolution using Node.js, React, Golang, MongoDB, ElasticSearch, and AWS. AI is core to how Kustomer builds; you'll use AI tools daily and help design AI-powered product capabilities that improve customer experience.
Key responsibilities include:
- Ship full-stack features end-to-end, owning scope from problem definition through production
- Develop APIs and integrate with external services and databases
- Build front-end interfaces with focus on UX, responsiveness, and accessibility
- Design and build AI-powered features
- Partner with PMs, engineers, and your Pod Lead on requirements, design, and scope tradeoffs
- Optimize application performance through caching, algorithms, and database indexing
- Write thorough unit and integration tests
- Conduct code reviews and mentor junior engineers
- Share production support on a rotating basis (on-call, bug triage)
- Stay current with emerging AI tools and full-stack technologies
- Ramp quickly on unfamiliar codebases using AI tooling and strong fundamentals
The company is remote-friendly with team members throughout the U.S. and U.K., gathering annually for Kamp Kustomer.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 7+ years of progressive software development experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
- Comfortable working across frontend and backend; able to follow work across layers
- Deep understanding of systems: data structures, algorithms, concurrency, distributed systems, API design, database internals
- Ability to ramp quickly on unfamiliar code by reading documentation, tracing execution, asking sharp questions
- Ownership mindset: raise risks early, communicate progress proactively, care about outcomes
- Ability to diagnose and debug complex issues and optimize performance
- Hands-on experience with modern AI developer tools (Cursor, Claude Code, etc.) and a working practice around using them for code comprehension, test scaffolding, documentation, debugging, and ramp
STRONG DIFFERENTIATORS:
- Familiarity with integrating AI/ML capabilities into web applications
- Exposure to third-party AI APIs or frameworks (OpenAI, Anthropic, LangChain, vector databases like Pinecone)
- Interest in how AI can enhance developer workflows and product functionality
- GitHub activity showing thoughtful, relevant contributions
