Salary: USD 156,000 - 186,000 / annual
Muon Space is seeking a Flight Software Engineer to join the satellite flight software team. You will design, develop, integrate, and test the software and firmware that runs on Muon's orbiting LEO satellites. As an integral member of the team, you'll translate concepts and requirements into working implementations, supporting through to on-orbit operations.
Key responsibilities include designing and bringing up the embedded software environment for satellite flight systems using ARM Cortex-M CPUs, writing application, platform, and driver functionality, and teaching others how to use the flight software stack. You'll integrate compute and peripheral subsystems in both software and hardware, collaborate closely with hardware team members on design and bring-up, and work with software colleagues to define flight software architecture, select infrastructure and tools, and integrate with cloud backends. You'll also participate in developing software and hardware-in-the-loop test strategies.
The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, versatile software developer with 5+ years of professional experience in embedded systems or appliance development. You should have strong C/C++ programming skills, experience integrating and controlling external hardware devices, and the ability to read and understand hardware datasheets. Excellent communication and presentation skills are essential.
Nice-to-have qualifications include knowledge of industry-standard data formats (ProtoBuf, YAML, JSON), familiarity with Linux development environments, strong embedded systems fundamentals (resource-efficient design, low-level drivers, RTOS frameworks, I/O buses), and experience with embedded Linux, FPGA, RF communication systems, or cloud infrastructure. A degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or related field is required.
