Coder is a Series B AI infrastructure platform enabling enterprises to securely run human and AI-driven development workflows in governed environments. As a Backend Engineer on the Enterprise Experience team, you will build features that help large organizations operate Coder in production with confidence.
The Enterprise Experience team owns the operator and administrator experience end-to-end, covering scalability, upgrades, reliability, observability, reporting, accountability, and security. You will work within a cross-functional team of backend, platform, and QA engineers shipping features from design through production.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building features end-to-end from design through production rollout
- Writing database migrations following team patterns for schema compatibility and safe upgrades
- Building observability, reporting, and audit features administrators rely on
- Developing security features for enterprise deployments
- Investigating and resolving scalability bottlenecks under production-like load
- Resolving backend issues surfaced by operators and administrators
- Documenting features clearly for code review and future engineers
- Participating in code reviews, RFC-style design discussions, and on-call rotation
The tech stack includes Go, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, gRPC, Prometheus, Grafana, and GitHub Actions.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 2+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Professional experience writing and shipping Go
- Working understanding of Go's concurrency model (goroutines, channels, sync package)
- Comfortable with SQL, schema changes, and writing migrations
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Solid debugging skills and persistence
- Self-motivated, analytical engineer who enjoys difficult technical challenges
BONUS EXPERIENCE:
- Investigating performance under real-world load, including debugging race conditions
- Experience with observability, audit, or security features in enterprise products
- Experience with major cloud providers, Kubernetes, and container orchestration
- Building or operating distributed systems at meaningful scale
- Curiosity about latest developer tooling
