Verse is building an energy intelligence platform for the AI economy, helping the world's largest energy consumers achieve faster, cheaper, and cleaner power through real-time control of energy assets and complete visibility into their energy portfolio. Backed by Bessemer Venture Partners, GV, Coatue, and NVIDIA, the company is solving critical infrastructure challenges that enable AI deployment at scale. As a Software Engineer focusing on Distributed Systems, you will work with industry experts building cloud-native applications that scale to trillions of data points from electricity markets globally. You'll be part of a dynamic backend team supporting the Aria software product, which spans hundreds of data sources, sinks, services, and jobs. Key responsibilities include fostering a culture of well-designed systems and test-driven software; reading and writing Go, Python, and Protobuf; building, testing, and scaling backend services and APIs with precise data structure alignment; designing and implementing critical application interface and database model changes; interoperating with various storage and retrieval systems for structured and unstructured data; troubleshooting system performance, reliability, and security; collaborating with product managers, UX designers, and frontend engineers; and occasionally working on platform and infrastructure layers for deployment automation, observability, monitoring, and alerting. You should have fluency with Python or Go language runtimes, build tools, and library ecosystems; first-principles knowledge of modern distributed systems; proven expertise in managing container-based deployments and microservices; command of complex application build configurations in mono-repository settings; strong understanding of service-oriented architectures, networking, and security fundamentals; and a commitment to technical leadership and high-quality software delivery. Preferred qualifications include a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or STEM field; demonstrated track record of Senior or Staff level software development; hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Google Cloud Platform; advanced programming skills in systems languages like Rust, Scala, Java, or C/C++; familiarity with gRPC and Protocol Buffers; experience deploying internet security solutions; and general knowledge of neural network architectures and the AI/ML landscape.
