Figma is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join its Infrastructure team, which powers the real-time collaborative design platform used by millions globally. You'll design, build, and operate distributed systems that form the technical foundation of Figma's platform, including storage, compute orchestration, networking, and real-time data systems.
Key responsibilities include architecting and evolving distributed systems such as storage platforms, streaming infrastructure, and compute orchestration; improving developer experience through internal platforms, CI/CD systems, and build tools; collaborating across product and infrastructure teams to design secure and performant systems; participating in platform strategy and engineering best practices; debugging complex production issues spanning multiple service layers; and mentoring engineers to foster technical excellence.
You should have 5+ years of software engineering experience, specifically in backend or infrastructure engineering, with deep understanding of distributed systems concepts (sharding, replication, consistency, eventual convergence). Required skills include proficiency with cloud-native environments (AWS, GCP, Azure), infrastructure-as-code, container orchestration, and languages such as Go, TypeScript, Python, Rust, or Ruby. Strong system design skills and a track record of architecting resilient production systems are essential, along with excellent communication and cross-team collaboration abilities.
Desirable experience includes scaling storage platforms (Postgres, Redis, S3, DynamoDB), operating streaming systems like Kafka, traffic management and DDoS mitigation, service mesh technologies (Envoy, Istio), developing complex real-time distributed systems at scale, and building developer productivity tools. The role offers the opportunity to shape the technical direction of one of the most beloved design platforms while working with a team passionate about making design accessible to all.
