Machine Medicine Technologies is a med-tech company building AI-powered tools for video-based motor assessments in clinical research and digital health. We're seeking an experienced Backend Engineer to design, build, and maintain our cloud infrastructure and deployment pipelines for a healthcare SaaS platform handling sensitive clinical data and ePHI.
You'll work hands-on across the full stack: backend services, production support, deployments, CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, and security. This is a startup role where you'll write production code and help operate the systems you build, working closely with our Platform Lead and broader engineering team.
Key responsibilities include building and maintaining backend services using TypeScript, NestJS, and TypeORM; developing REST APIs; managing PostgreSQL databases (schema design, migrations, performance, data integrity); supporting production systems (monitoring, troubleshooting, incident response, root-cause analysis); maintaining GitHub-based CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows; working with Terraform across AWS and/or GCP; implementing secure configuration, secrets management, access control, and audit logging; and working with authentication systems like Keycloak.
Required: 5+ years commercial software development; production experience with TypeScript and NestJS (or similar enterprise backend frameworks); TypeORM or similar ORM experience; strong PostgreSQL production experience; SaaS platform or production backend service experience; REST API design and implementation; GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment workflow experience; hands-on production system support; AWS and/or GCP knowledge; Terraform or infrastructure-as-code experience; strong application security, authentication, authorization, and secure coding practices; experience with systems requiring reliability, auditability, and data protection.
Desirable: Keycloak, OAuth2, OpenID Connect, SSO, RBAC, or FGA experience; healthcare, life sciences, finance, or regulated SaaS environment experience; familiarity with ePHI, HIPAA, GDPR, ISO 27001, or similar compliance; observability tooling, logging, metrics, and alerting experience; automated testing and API testing experience; startup or small-company production support experience.
You should be hands-on and pragmatic, comfortable taking responsibility for production systems, vocal about security and reliability, able to work in small teams without dedicated support staff, calm during troubleshooting, and a clear communicator.
