Iterable is seeking a Software Engineer II for the Developer Platform team to improve the Scala, Bazel, and CI foundations that power the company's engineering organization. In this hands-on role, you will own moderate-complexity projects that make the codebase easier to change, the build graph easier to reason about, and CI more reliable at production scale.
You will work directly on the Bazel build platform, core Scala libraries shared across services, and partner with product engineering teams to convert recurring developer pain points into durable platform improvements. Key responsibilities include improving the core developer workflow by building and refining systems for compilation, testing, packaging, and validation; contributing to shared engineering foundations like common libraries and service development practices; making CI faster and more reliable; creating leverage for product engineers through tools and automation; and applying AI-assisted engineering practices to accelerate complex platform work.
The role emphasizes practical systems thinking and thoughtful use of modern AI tooling. You should have strong software engineering fundamentals in Scala, Java, Kotlin, or similar production languages, with the ability to read, modify, test, and review code in large shared codebases. Experience with build systems (Bazel, SBT, Maven, Gradle), CI infrastructure (GitHub Actions), or test infrastructure is valuable. You should be comfortable debugging complex build and workflow failures, turning repeated issues into clear fixes and tooling, and taking a product-minded approach to developer experience. Familiarity with AI tools like Cursor and Claude for real engineering work is expected.
