Figma is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join the Build Systems team within Developer Experience. This role focuses on owning and evolving Figma's build and CI infrastructure—the core platforms that enable engineers to ship changes to production quickly and safely. You will drive the technical roadmap and strategy for build systems, working across a polyglot monorepo to design and maintain scalable platforms including build systems, artifact repositories, merge queues, test frameworks, and CI pipelines. Key responsibilities include partnering with cross-functional teams to identify developer pain points, leading multi-quarter initiatives to reduce build/test times and improve CI reliability, and architecting large-scale infrastructure on AWS that powers the entire build pipeline. You'll mentor and uplevel the team through technical guidance, code reviews, and architectural leadership. You'll collaborate with product engineers (your customers), infrastructure teams, and executive stakeholders, communicating technical decisions clearly across all levels of the organization. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of engineering experience, including 4+ years on Infrastructure, Platform, or Developer Experience teams. Deep expertise in build systems (Bazel, Buck, Pants, Gradle) and operating large-scale monorepos is essential. You should have hands-on experience optimizing CI/CD, building developer tooling at scale, and designing reliable distributed systems. Strong coding skills in Go, TypeScript, Python, or Ruby, combined with AWS and Infrastructure as Code experience, are required. Proven technical leadership is critical—you should have a track record of setting technical direction, driving cross-team initiatives, and communicating effectively across stakeholders. Experience migrating large codebases to modern build systems, building test frameworks, and improving test infrastructure is a plus. You bring excellent problem-solving skills grounded in first principles, a bias for action, and a strong focus on impact. You care deeply about software quality and balance idealism with pragmatism. This is a full-time role available from San Francisco, New York, or remotely within the United States. Figma values growth, inclusivity, and collaboration, and encourages applications from candidates excited to learn and develop their skills.
