Anthropic is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Claude product team and build native desktop applications that leverage advanced language models. The role focuses on developing elegant desktop experiences for macOS and Windows, combining web technologies (TypeScript, React, Electron) with native code (Rust, Swift, C++) to create seamless AI-powered user interfaces.
Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining core infrastructure for Claude's desktop app, using native code to integrate advanced features with macOS and Windows platforms, optimizing application performance and memory usage, designing robust update mechanisms and deployment pipelines, and creating monitoring tools to track performance and user experience. You'll also help shape the vision for how advanced LLMs can be most useful on desktop computers, augmenting human work.
The ideal candidate has 5+ years of software engineering experience with strong emphasis on desktop application development. Preferred qualifications include practical experience with Electron and its architecture, strong JavaScript/TypeScript skills with modern frontend frameworks, experience with native module development in C++, understanding of macOS and/or Windows platform-specific technologies, and experience with cross-platform application packaging and distribution.
Anthropnic emphasizes that strong engineers excited to learn new languages and technologies are valued over those with narrow specialization. Candidates may have experience with Chromium, browser development, operating systems, deeply OS-integrated software (screensharing, video-calling, game engines), AI/ML model integration, cross-platform development strategies, or IPC and security in desktop applications. The company is building the best possible version of Claude for desktop and is looking for curious engineers excited to explore what AI on the desktop could accomplish.
