CI/CD is the beating heart of Vercel's platform. Millions of builds flow through the system daily, and this role owns the infrastructure that powers that entire lifecycle. As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer on the CI/CD team, you will take end-to-end ownership of the systems that enable developers to ship at scale—not just contributing features, but being responsible for the design, reliability, and long-term evolution of the platform itself.
You will design and operate high-performance microservices processing millions of builds daily, ensuring speed, reliability, and exceptional developer experience. This role blends product thinking with deep systems ownership, partnering across Vercel to build infrastructure that directly impacts how developers ship software. You'll lead projects end-to-end, from identifying opportunities to defining technical direction and delivering improvements in performance, reliability, and developer productivity.
Key responsibilities include owning the infrastructure powering Vercel's build and deployment lifecycle (webhooks, database schemas, scalable APIs), designing resilient microservices, leading end-to-end projects, collaborating across teams to align infrastructure with company goals, shaping the long-term vision of CI/CD at Vercel, participating in on-call rotations, contributing to open-source, and writing clean, tested, well-documented code.
You bring 6+ years of experience designing, building, and operating backend applications and distributed systems at scale. You have strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, AWS, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform). You have a proven track record of end-to-end ownership from design through production operation, excel at cross-team collaboration, are comfortable setting architectural direction and standards, and have experience mentoring engineers. Bonus experience includes familiarity with React/Next.js, DynamoDB, CI/CD platform development, open-source contributions, and build system optimization for monorepos or polyrepos.
