Snowflake is seeking Software Engineers to join its Database Engineering team, working on a petabyte-scale cloud database system. In this role, you will design, develop, and support highly parallel, fault-tolerant data processing infrastructure serving some of the world's largest enterprises.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and develop core components of Snowflake's elastic, large-scale, high-performance database system
- Build reliable software meeting the needs of major global companies
- Analyze and resolve performance and scalability bottlenecks through instrumentation and optimization
- Implement novel query optimization and distributed data processing algorithms
- Design new service architecture for the Snowflake Data Cloud
- Develop tools to help customers gain insights into their workloads
Required qualifications:
- 2+ years of industry experience with commercial or open-source software
- Fluency in Java or C++
- Linux development experience
- Strong problem-solving skills and CS fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, distributed systems)
- Systems programming expertise (multi-threading, concurrency)
- Experience with implementation, testing, debugging, and documentation
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (Master's or PhD preferred)
- Ability to work on-site in Menlo Park, Bellevue, or Berlin
Bonus experience includes SQL/database technologies, query optimization, distributed key-value stores (FoundationDB), storage engines (RocksDB, InnoDB), database internals (MySQL, PostgreSQL), data warehouse design, large-scale distributed systems, database replication, and big data technologies (HDFS, Cassandra, columnar databases).
